Newfoundland and Labrador’s first premier culinary tourism event.

Roots, Rants, & Roars Festival

The Roots, Rants, & Roars Festival presented against an unbelievable cultural backdrop (the ocean, the beach, and root cellars), highlights the communities 133 root cellars and builds upon the subsistence theme. Now about to enter its fourth season, Roots, Rants, and Roars is Newfoundland and Labrador’s first premier culinary tourism event. Throughout the two days, local and national chefs work with local ingredients in new and contemporary ways and offer interactive culinary experiences which highlight local culture and connect people to the land and the sea.

Music and entertainment are provided throughout the Festival by well-known Newfoundland entertainers. The Festival promotes local Newfoundland and Labrador food products, wines, food producers, farmers, and Newfoundland entertainers in a culturally rich environment. The weekend event focuses on local art and artisans. Many of the region’s and province’s artisans are on-hand to present their work and many can be seen creating unique products on-site.

The Festival is usually scheduled for the third weekend in September and the program presents the “King of the Cod” on Friday. Participating chefs prepare cod in a variety of ways to compete for the title. Saturday’s program features the very popular food hike and the evening roast. Great entertainment is provided each day.
